Step-by-Step Guide to Registering a TikTok Shop Seller Account and Avoiding Rejection

Step-by-Step Guide to Registering a TikTok Shop Seller Account and Avoiding Rejection

Two Ways to Register

Method 1 — Via TikTok account: scan the QR code or log in using the phone number/email/username of an existing TikTok account.

Method 2 — Via phone number or email: enter information, set a password, and verify with an OTP code. This information then serves two roles: login credentials for Seller Center, and the TikTok Shop channel used to send you official notifications.

3-Step Process After Creating an Account

  1. Identity verification (choose business type, upload documents, NFC verification with chipped citizen ID if applicable).
  2. Shop setup (tax information, warehouse address) and then upload your first product to display it on the app.
  3. Link official TikTok Account.

How to Avoid Document Rejection

  • If documents are rejected, the system displays the specific reason directly in Seller Center—read the reason carefully before resubmitting, do not resubmit the exact same documents.
  • Error of entering incorrect phone number/email during registration: if you do not receive the OTP within 1 minute, you almost certainly entered it incorrectly—go back and fix it instead of waiting.
  • After being rejected, you can still supplement information and resubmit the old application, no need to create a new profile.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I change login information later? Yes, in Seller Profile > Account Information—but you must verify using your current contact information first, and changing login information does not automatically update the shop’s contact information (must be edited separately).

Can I change the business type later? Yes, in Account Settings > Qualification Center.

Risks to Note

Choosing the wrong business type during registration (for example, registering as an Individual while actually operating as a household business) will force you to redo the qualification process when switching later, and some products requiring category/brand certification may be temporarily taken down during the transition. Getting it right from the start is still cheaper than fixing it later.
