From registering a shop to running Mega Sales: what sellers often get wrong and how to do it right. Every article opens with a quick recommendation.
Prepare 1 of 3 document sets based on business type (Individual / Household / Company) before registering—this is the most common reason for rejection, not because TikTok Shop is "strict".
Read article
Register with an existing TikTok account if you have an active channel (retains history, easy to link later); register with a separate phone/email if you want to completely separate your sales account from your personal account.

Do not upload your first product before completing the 8 basic settings in My Account—missing any item (especially bank account and tax) can block you at the very first withdrawal step, right when you get real orders.
Read article
Handle the 3 items of Bank, Tax, and Brand in the first week of opening your shop, even when there are no orders yet. These 3 items are often postponed but determine whether you can withdraw money and sell branded products.

Use Media Center to upload and get product image links instead of pasting external image links — this is the most reliable way to avoid errors during bulk uploads, especially when uploading multiple products at once using bulk tools.
Read article
Use the "AI Optimization" feature right after uploading product images — but only accept system-generated content when your original description is detailed enough. The sparser the original description, the less the AI has to optimize.

Before bulk editing products, clearly identify which fields can be edited directly and which require a separate bulk tool—mixing up these two flows is an error that causes many new shops to incorrectly edit a large number of products at the same time.

New shops should start with Shopping Videos before investing in LIVE—videos do not require a fixed broadcasting schedule, have a 30-second quick creation tool, and the data accumulated from videos helps you understand which products are worth adding to the LIVE Shopping Cart later.
Read article
Run content through the Shopping Video quality check tool before posting to the Official Account—this step helps reduce policy violation risks and protect account status, which is much more important than optimizing video effects.

Use LIVE Guide (AI) to diagnose product lists before going live instead of choosing by intuition—this tool is based on actual shop performance, not subjective speculation.
Read article
Use the "Action Required" tab as your daily coordination hub instead of scrolling through the entire order list—this tab aggregates cancellation and return/refund requests, helping you avoid missing urgent orders.

New shops should use Ship by Platform as default—TikTok Shop manages and assigns carriers, reducing operational burden. Only switch to Ship by Seller when you have a separate contract with a carrier for better rates or need to control specific delivery routes.
Read article
Check the "Unsuccessful Delivery" tab in Order Management at least 2-3 times/week. Do not wait for customer complaints — many statuses here require proactive action from the seller (submitting tickets, contacting customers/carriers) instead of being resolved automatically.

For bulky or irregularly shaped products (plush toys, futon pillows, large bagged diapers...), always calculate volumetric weight in advance — the shipping fee you pay may be based on this figure instead of the actual weight, which is a common reason why new sellers are surprised by higher-than-expected shipping fees.
Read article
Mark internal calendar reminders for 2 mandatory deadlines — 1 calendar day to approve/reject requests, and 2 calendar days to inspect returned goods — because if you miss these windows, the platform will automatically approve on your behalf, and you will lose the right to appeal if you miss the second deadline as well.
Read article
Take photos/videos of the package as soon as you open it, before performing any action — the clearer the evidence you provide when appealing (unobscured air waybill, comparison of returned item with original order), the higher the chance of a successful appeal.

New shops should start with Shipping Fee Discounts (easy to set up, directly impacts purchase decisions) before investing in Promo Codes (which require external distribution channels outside of TikTok to be effective).
Read article
If your product is restricted by price protection policies from direct discounts (common for branded goods), use Gift with Purchase (GWP) instead of BMSM — this is exactly the case where TikTok Shop recommends GWP as an alternative.

Don't join the Marketing Benefit Package just because you see attractive display positions (top banner, Recommendation Page...) — check the payment terms carefully first, because most packages charge fees even if the performance is not as expected, and withdrawing midway is almost non-refundable.
Read article
Start preparing content and LIVE at least 14 days before Mega Sales start — this is the official milestone recommended by TikTok Shop for the "generating interest" phase, not just an estimate.
Read article
Pre-calculate the maximum budget for each promotion (BMSM, GWP, shipping discounts) based on the actual profit margin of each product — do not set budgets based on intuition and adjust midway, because some promotion costs are non-refundable when returns/refunds occur after shipping.

Don't send the same message to all customers — use the Communication Feature to segment them by actual behavior first, as TikTok Shop has 7 default segments built based on shopping data, without requiring manual calculation.

Enable automatic FAQ even if you have a dedicated CSKH team — this feature does not replace staff, but filters out repetitive questions (pre-purchase, logistics, after-sales) so the team can focus on questions that truly require human thinking.
Read article
If you don't have a dedicated CS team, set a maximum session limit of at least 200 sessions per agent (even if you handle it yourself) — this is the number recommended by TikTok Shop to avoid unallocated sessions due to reaching handling limits.

Enable Auto-withdrawal for steady weekly cash flow without manual effort—the system automatically withdraws to your primary bank account every Wednesday. Only use manual withdrawal when you need cash more urgently than the weekly cycle.

Verify your company tax code as soon as possible if eligible—the difference between "verified" and "unverified" directly affects how TikTok service fees are calculated (whether tax is included or not), which is not a minor difference to ignore.

Don't try to read all Data Compass modules from the start—begin with "Shop Data Overview" and "Product Ranking" daily. These two modules directly answer the most important questions for new shops: what was sold today, and why.

Before blaming prices or competitors when products don't get orders, check Product Card Diagnosis first—this tool lists exactly 14 specific issues (from "not reaching the recommendation threshold" to "unoptimized titles"), instead of guessing.

Check the Shop Health section regularly, not just when receiving warnings—the dashboard clearly shows which types of violations are contributing to the risk level, meaning you know exactly what to fix instead of guessing.

If the Category tab is not yet displayed on your shop page, don't just check the number of products—also check the number of custom categories created, because the display condition requires both: at least 6 active products AND at least 2 categories.
